In contrast to other transition metals, platinum does not bind to DNA. However, it does interact with DNA through covalent linkages and x-ray diffraction data suggests that it binds to the ribosome during protein synthesis. Platinum(IV) chloride is chemically stable in water and air and is detectable in the range of 10-100 ppm.
