2-n-Propylimidazole is a crystalline compound that belongs to the imidazole derivatives. It has been found in many environmental sources, such as n-dimethyl formamide and glyoxal. 2-n-Propylimidazole has been shown to have a strong hydrogen bonding capability with other molecules, including benzoates and glyoxals, which may be due to its functional groups. The crystal x-ray diffraction patterns of 2-n-propyl imidazole reveal that it has an orthorhombic structure with space group Pnnm. The functional theory suggests that 2-n-propyl imidazole acts as a mononuclear or supramolecular complex.
2-n-Propylimidazoles are used in the production of dyes and pigments and are also used in the synthesis of other organic compounds.
