4-Propylphenol is a chemical that has a hydroxyl group in its structure. It reacts with oxygen to form hydrogen peroxide and 4-hydroxybenzoic acid. This reaction occurs in the flow system at high pressure and temperature, which are both supercritical. The plant physiology of eugenol and protocatechuic acid, which contain hydroxyl groups, is also studied using this method. Hydrogen bonding is an important factor in the reactions of 4-propylphenol with sodium carbonate and water. The irreversible inhibition of activated sludge by 4-propylphenol was found to be reversible after the addition of sodium carbonate and hydrogen peroxide.
