N-Phenylaza-15-crown 5-ether (NPCE) is a thermodynamically stable and chemically unreactive compound. It can be used as a fluorophore in electrochemical studies. NPCE is also used in the irreversible oxidation of diazonium salts to form azo compounds, which makes it useful as an indicator of acidity. The binding constants of NPCE are high and its solubility in water is low. This compound displays fluorescence properties and is stable in complexes with potassium ions and chloride.
