Polyethylene glycol monooleyl ether n=50 (PEG-O-50) is a non-toxic, biocompatible polymer that has been shown to inhibit the enzyme activity of benzalkonium chloride in experimental models and model systems. PEG-O-50 also inhibits axonal growth, inducing apoptosis and cell death. This compound may be useful as an experimental drug for treating cancer or other diseases. It is also a potential candidate for use in transfection experiments with biological samples. PEG-O-50 has been shown to have little toxicity to cells, although its effects on infectious diseases are not yet known.
