Product Information
- PBT Cyclic Dimer1,4-Butanediol-terephthaloyl Chloride Cyclic Dimer
Pharacine is an alkaloid that has been used in the treatment of leukemia. It has shown anti-tumor properties in vivo, and has also been shown to inhibit the growth of bacteria, including Staphylococcus aureus and Streptococcus pyogenes. Pharacine was discovered by analyzing k562 cells in vitro, where it was shown to inhibit retinoic acid synthesis. This analysis also revealed that all-trans retinoic acid (atRA) is a potent inhibitor of leukemia cell proliferation. The cytotoxicity of atRA is due to its ability to bind to leukemic stem cells and cause apoptosis. In vivo antitumor activity has been observed with subtilis, which inhibits tumor formation when injected into mice. The cytotoxic effects are due to the production of hydrogen peroxide as a result of the metabolism of acetate extract from subtilis.
