Description:PEG 2000 is a heterobifunctional molecule that contains two reactive groups, one for covalent attachment to a drug and the other for covalent attachment to a biological molecule. The attachment of PEG 2000 to epidermal growth factor (EGF) results in pegylation of EGF. This process has been shown to increase the water solubility of EGF, leading to increased hydration and reduced skin dryness. It has also been shown that PEG 2000 prevents the binding of EGF to its receptor, thereby inhibiting the growth of cancer cells. Clinical studies have shown that pegylated EGF may be effective in reducing tumor size in patients with breast cancer.
