C-Phycocyanin is a protein that is found in cyanobacteria. It has been shown to have anti-inflammatory activity in wild-type mice and human polymorphonuclear leukocytes, as well as reactive oxygen species (ROS) scavenging properties. C-Phycocyanin has also been shown to inhibit growth factor-β1 induced ROS production in vitro, which was associated with the inhibition of xanthine oxidase activity. The molecular docking analysis of c-phycocyanin with PGE2 receptors revealed that it may be able to inhibit the activation of the receptor. It has been shown to have good adsorption properties for removing pollutants from wastewater treatment plants. C-Phycocyanin is also thought to have antioxidant and antiapoptotic activities, which can be studied using in vitro assays and model systems such as polymerase chain reaction.
