Description

Pratol is a natural product that has been shown to inhibit melanogenesis. It was isolated from the Chinese herb, which is used in traditional Chinese medicine for the treatment of diabetes and other conditions. Pratol is an acetate extract of the plant, which contains a hydroxyl group. This chemical inhibits the activity of tyrosinase, a key enzyme in melanogenesis. The active form of pratol is thought to be an aromatic fatty acid, which binds to the surface of tyrosinase and blocks its active site. The light emission studies suggest that pratol may have potential as a therapeutic agent for skin disorders such as vitiligo and melasma.
