Pabulenol is a coumarin derivative that has been shown to inhibit the replication of cancer cells. Pabulenol inhibits the production of gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) in brain cells, which is thought to be the reason for its anticomplement activity. It also inhibits bone cancer cells and has shown anticancer effects in vitro. Pabulenol's chemical structures are similar to phenolic acids and it may have antioxidant effects. The anticomplement activity of pabulenol may be due to its ability to inhibit complement activation by proteolytic cleavage of the complement protein C3b.
