2-Phenylethynylbenzaldehyde is a photolytic reagent that is used to synthesize benzannulated quinazolinones. 2-Phenylethynylbenzaldehyde is a primary amine that can be hydrogen bonded with terminal alkynes in order to form a hexane or naphthalene. Quinolizine and dehydrogenation can be used as the second step to produce 2-phenylethynylbenzaldehyde. It has been shown that 2-phenylethynylbenzaldehyde has optical properties that are stereoselective and anthranilic.
