- Quinoline-8-carboxylic acid
- Quinoline-8-Methanol
- Quinoline-8-Carboxylate
8-Quinolinecarboxylicacid is a potent formylating agent that has been shown to inhibit the histone deacetylase (HDAC) enzyme. This inhibition prevents the removal of acetyl groups from lysine residues on the histones, which are necessary for transcription of genes. The resulting inactivation of HDAC leads to an increase in transcriptional activity, which can be demonstrated by FT-IR spectroscopy. 8-Quinolinecarboxylicacid is also a potent antioxidant, and has been shown to have anti-inflammatory effects in vitro. It is unstable in air, and oxidation products have been detected when it is exposed to air or light. 8-Quinolinecarboxylicacid can be used as a pharmaceutical precursor for picolinic acid, quinoline derivatives, and other drugs with similar structures.
