Resorcinol is a coumarin derivative that has inhibitory properties. It is a compound used in the production of pharmaceuticals, perfumes, and dyes. It is also used as an antiseptic and disinfectant. Resorcinol has been shown to have inhibitory effects on nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) such as ibuprofen and naproxen. Resorcinol can be recycled by reacting it with trifluoroacetic acid (TFA) to form 2-chloro-4-hydroxybenzaldehyde, which can then be further oxidized to 4-chlorobenzaldehyde using sodium citrate. The latter product can be converted into resorcinol by reaction with hydrogen gas or sodium hydroxide. Resorcinol has been shown to have optical sensor properties and can be used for the detection of methyl ethyl ketone (MEK). It also exhibits synchronous fluorescence
