Resorufin is a fluorescent probe that reacts with the enzyme mannosidase II. It has been shown to react with rat liver microsomes, which leads to the formation of stable complexes. The stability of these complexes depends on the dinucleotide phosphate, which is a basic structure that binds to the resorufin. Resorufin has been used as a reagent in studies of skin cancer and carcinoma cell lines. It is also used to study enzyme substrates and chemical stability.
