Description

Rubropunctamine is a pigment that binds to glutamate receptors and blocks the binding of glutamate to the receptor. It has been shown to be effective in the treatment of epilepsy, as well as other neurological disorders. Rubropunctamine has been shown to inhibit the expression of gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) in neuronal cells and, by extension, may affect GABA-mediated neurotransmission. Rubropunctamine is also effective at blocking the transcriptional regulation of genes that are involved in apoptosis pathways. Rubropunctamine's molecular structure is similar to azaphilones and can bind to specific sites on the GABA receptor, which may help with process optimization.
