Rupintrivir is a non-nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitor that binds to the polymerase chain of human pathogens and inhibits its activity. Rupintrivir has been shown to inhibit hepatitis B virus (HBV) in vitro and in vivo. It inhibits HBV replication by binding to the viral enzyme polymerase and preventing it from making an RNA template molecule. This drug also has a high affinity for the wild-type virus, which makes it a good candidate for treating HBV infection. Rupintrivir is currently being evaluated as an antiviral therapy for HIV/AIDS, although this drug may not be active against other viruses such as influenza or RSV due to the lack of structural homology.
