• Description: Lafutidine is a proton pump inhibitor that belongs to the class of H1 receptor antagonists. It is a potent and long lasting H1 receptor antagonist with a long half-life, which may be due to its ability to form a stable covalent bond with the active site of the enzyme. Lafutidine has been shown to inhibit gastric acid secretion in two-way crossover trials, reducing disease activity in patients with infectious diseases. It was also shown to increase water permeability in dextran sulfate sodium-induced ileitis models, although toxicity studies were not performed. Molecular docking analysis showed that lafutidine binds to the human serum albumin (HSA) binding site on the enzyme's active site, suggesting that it may have toxicological properties.
