Rac trans-9,10-epoxystearic acid is a metabolite of fatty acids that belongs to the group of epoxy compounds. It is conjugated with stearic acid and has been found in human urine. Rac trans-9,10-epoxystearic acid has been shown to be a conjugate acid of an epoxide. Rac trans-9,10-epoxystearic acid can be converted into the corresponding conjugate base by reacting it with an alkaline substance such as sodium hydroxide (NaOH) or ammonia (NH3). It can also be converted back into its original form by reacting it with a mineral acid such as hydrochloric acid (HCl) or sulfuric acid (H2SO4).
