Resibufogenin is a polycyclic diterpene isolated from the root of the Chinese herb, Coptidis Rhizoma. Resibufogenin has been shown to inhibit the activity of enzymes, such as matrix metalloproteinases and protein kinase C. It also inhibits tumor cell growth, which may be due to its ability to induce apoptosis. The mechanism by which resibufogenin induces apoptosis is not well understood, but it appears to involve modulation of the mitochondrial membrane potential and activation of caspases. RESIBUFOGENIN (resi-bu-foe-jen-in) is a polycyclic diterpene isolated from the root of the Chinese herb Coptidis Rhizoma (huangqin). Resibufogenin has been shown to inhibit matrix metalloproteinases and protein kinase C in vitro. In vivo studies have demonstrated that resibufogenin inhibits tumor
