Rhynchophylline is a plant alkaloid that belongs to the group of indole alkaloids. It has been found to inhibit the production of proinflammatory cytokines and growth factor-β1 in hl-60 cells. Rhynchophylline also inhibits neuronal death induced by lipopolysaccharide and prevents disease activity in mice with collagen-induced arthritis. Rhynchophylline has been shown to have synergistic effects with isocorynoxeine, an anti-inflammatory drug, which may be due to its ability to inhibit P-glycoprotein (Pgp), a protein that transports a wide range of substrates across cellular membranes.
