Rhodamine 6G is a fluorescent dye that is used as an optical sensor for the determination of glucose in biological samples. Rhodamine 6G has been shown to bind to dextran sulfate, which can be used as a matrix in the reaction mechanism. The optimum concentration of Rhodamine 6G is around 1 mg/mL, and it reacts with high values of enzyme activities. Rhodamine 6G is also able to enhance fluorescence signals when bound to DNA or RNA, which makes it useful as a fluorescence probe for nucleic acid detection.
