- Ruthenium(III) nitrosyl chloride monohydrate
Ruthenium nitrosyl chloride monohydrate (RuClNO) is a redox catalyst with a high reduction potential and an ability to reduce silver ions to silver metal. Ruthenium nitrosyl chloride monohydrate is also an amide, which has been shown to have antinociceptive properties. It has been used as a solid catalyst in organic reactions, and has biological properties such as the inhibition of DNA polymerase. The nitrogen atoms in the molecule can be oxidized by hydrochloric acid and reduced by hydrogen peroxide, giving RuClNO its redox potential. RuClNO has been shown to be able to catalyze electron transfer from protonated molecules at one electrode to a second electrode through the use of FT-IR spectroscopy.
