Rothindin is a naturally occurring compound found in the leaves of the Pratense l. plant from which it derives its name. It has chemopreventive properties against cancer and fatty acid-related diseases such as those of the liver, and has been shown to stimulate growth factor production in cancer cells. Rothindin is also known for its anti-inflammatory properties, which may be due to its ability to inhibit prostaglandin synthesis. The mechanism of action by which Rothindin induces apoptosis in cancer cells is unknown, but may be due to its ability to induce oxidative stress or inhibit protein synthesis. Rothindin has been shown to have anticancer activity against breast cancer cells, pancreatic cancer cells, and prostate cancer cells.
