Rhodiosin is a natural compound that is found in the fruit of Rhododendron. It has been shown to inhibit acetylcholinesterase, an enzyme that breaks down the neurotransmitter acetylcholine. Rhodiosin has also been found to have antioxidant properties and may be used to protect against oxidative injury. The levels of rhodiosin are at physiological levels in the tissue culture and control analysis, but can be increased by flavonol glycosides. The inhibition of acetylcholinesterase leads to an increase in acetate extract, which can inhibit apoptosis pathway.
