Rhein-8-glucoside is a glycoside found in the genus Rheum. It has been shown to have biological properties, including being genotoxic and having potential cancer risks for animals. Rhein-8-glucoside is an acidic compound that can be used as a laxative. It has been shown to inhibit the growth of Trichomonas vaginalis by binding to the trichomonad cell wall and preventing it from absorbing glucose, leading to cell death.
