Rosiridin is a flavonol glycoside that inhibits the growth of prostate cancer cells. Rosiridin is a non-polar solvent and serine protease inhibitor. It is obtained from Usnea longissima, a lichen found in the Northern hemisphere, and has been shown to have inhibitory effects on influenza virus. The chemical structure of rosiridin is similar to that of ursolic acid, an FDA-approved drug for treatment of cancer. The anticancer properties of rosiridin may be due to its ability to inhibit the production of tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α) and interleukin-6 (IL-6). Rosiridin also has anti-inflammatory properties, which may be due to its ability to inhibit prostaglandin synthesis.
