Description:R-Reticuline is a natural compound that has been shown to be an effective inhibitor of the enzyme cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2). It binds to the active site of COX-2 and blocks the conversion of arachidonic acid to prostaglandin H2, thereby inhibiting inflammation. R-Reticuline can also inhibit other enzymes in the same family, such as lipooxygenase and 5-lipoxygenase. The COX-2 inhibition by R-Reticuline may be due to its ability to bind to a receptor on cells, which leads to inhibition of transcriptional activation.
