Spiculisporic acid is a polycarboxylic acid that has been isolated from the fungus Talaromyces spiculisporus. It is a salt of malonic acid and monosodium acetate. The molecular weight of spiculisporic acid is 234.11 g/mol, which consists of a hydroxyl group, two carboxylic groups, and three sodium atoms. Spiculisporic acid has been shown to have antimicrobial properties against Gram-positive bacteria and fungi. It also has anti-inflammatory properties due to its ability to inhibit prostaglandin synthesis in vitro. Spiculisporic acid also displays antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus, Salmonella enterica serovar Typhimurium, and Bacillus subtilis.
