Product Information
Name:Sarcosine
Synonyms:
- N-Methylglycine(Methylamino)acetic acidSarcosinic acidN-Methylglycocoll
Brand:Biosynth
Description:Sarcosine is a naturally occurring amino acid that can be found in the body and in many foods. It has been shown to inhibit the activity of the enzyme adenylate cyclase, which is involved in cell signaling. This inhibition leads to a decrease in intracellular calcium levels, which results in reduced proliferation and apoptosis of HL-60 cells. The sarcosine concentration required for this effect is dependent on the type of cell being treated, with optimum concentrations ranging from 10-100 mM. Sarcosine also binds to nuclear DNA and may have an inhibitory effect on transcriptional activity. In addition, it has been shown to be an effective inhibitor of protein synthesis by binding to ribosomes and preventing peptide bond formation between amino acids at the ribosomal active site.
