H-Ser-Leu-OH is a methylvaleric acid that is found in biological tissue and has been studied for its potential use as a pharmacological treatment. It has been shown to have anti-inflammatory effects, which may be due to its inhibition of prostaglandin synthesis. H-Ser-Leu-OH also inhibits the activity of divalent metal ions, such as magnesium and zinc, by binding to their chelating groups. This binding prevents the formation of an enzyme cell wall synthesis complex with the enzyme that is required for cell wall biosynthesis, inhibiting protein synthesis and cell division. H-Ser-Leu-OH has also shown potential as an analytical method for cancer detection. It can be used to detect carcinogenesis by detecting changes in DNA methylation patterns at the promoter region of tumor suppressor genes (e.g., RASSF1A).
