Product Information
Salannin is a natural product extracted from the leaves of the Meliaceae family. It has been shown to inhibit the activity of matrix metalloproteinases, which are enzymes that degrade collagen and other proteins in the extracellular matrix. Salannin also inhibits cell factor (a protein that increases proliferation of cancer cells) and fatty acid synthase, which is required for prostaglandin synthesis. These actions may be associated with its anti-cancer properties. Salannin also has been shown to up-regulate genes involved in osteogenesis, such as osteogenic genes, and induce cell nuclei changes, such as nuclear pyknosis. Salannin has been found to have hepatotoxic effects in rats at high doses.
