Product Information
Senkirkine is a n-oxide that is produced by the plant Camptotheca acuminata. It has been shown to have physiological effects on rats, including an increase in blood pressure and heart rate. Senkirkine is also genotoxic and genotoxic, with mutagenic and clastogenic effects on chromosomes of rat cells. The compound has been shown to inhibit DNA synthesis in bacteria, but not plants or animals. The presence of a hydroxyl group at position C-5 distinguishes senkirkine from neosenkirkine, which contains a methyl group at this position. Monoclonal antibodies were used to identify the structure of senkirkine as an N-oxide derivative of retrorsine. Senkirkine has been found to be active against cancer cell lines in vitro and in vivo.
