The optical properties of Solvent Blue 5 are dependent on the length of the polymers chains and the concentration of sulfonic acids. This chemical also has a liquid crystal composition that has been shown to have metal ion activity. The functional groups on this polymer are mainly basic dyes that react with other substances to create new compounds.
