Siratiazem is a prodrug that is converted to its active form by hydrolysis in the liver. It binds to the L-type calcium channels in cardiac muscle cells, thereby blocking calcium influx and decreasing the excitability of these cells. This drug has been shown to be effective in phase 1 clinical trials, with no major adverse effects. Siratiazem can cause symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, or constipation and may also have effects on insulin resistance and ventricular dysfunction.
