Description:Serlopitant is a potent and selective antagonist of the adenosine A3 receptor. It has been shown to have analgesic effects in animals, and has been used to treat chronic cough in humans. Serlopitant also binds to the neurokinin-1 receptor, which is involved in inflammatory skin diseases such as psoriasis and atopic dermatitis. Clinical studies have shown that serlopitant may be effective in treating cancer, kidney disease, and heart disease. Serlopitant is an analog of nalmefene (a drug that was previously approved for use in Europe), but it is 100 times more potent than nalmefene and does not show any affinity for opioid receptors.
