Description

Seleno-D,L-ethionine is a selenium-containing compound that is used to treat inflammatory bowel disease. It inhibits the activity of the enzyme protease in neutrophils and T cells, which in turn prevents inflammation. Seleno-D,L-ethionine has been shown to be effective in treating intestinal inflammation by inhibiting the activity of enzymes such as malonic acid and trifluoroacetic acid that are involved in the production of inflammatory mediators. This drug also exhibits anti-estrogenic properties, which may be due to its ability to inhibit estrone sulfate synthesis.
