Description:Sulfotep is a sulfonamide antibiotic that inhibits bacterial growth by binding to the 50S ribosomal subunit. It has been shown to be effective against a wide range of bacteria including Staphylococcus aureus, Enterobacter aerogenes, Escherichia coli, and Salmonella typhimurium. The sensitivity of Sulfotep to inhibit bacterial growth depends on the bacterial strain and detection method used. Sulfotep binds to fatty acids in the cell membrane and forms a complex with calcium ions. This complex is toxic to bacteria because it prevents them from synthesizing fatty acids required for cell division. Sulfotep also inhibits acetylcholinesterase activity by binding to its active site, preventing the breakdown of acetylcholine.
