Sinigrin is a natural product that has been shown to have insecticidal and antimicrobial activity. It is also known as mustard oil glycoside, which is an enzyme inhibitor with antioxidant properties. Sinigrin is used in analytical methods for the determination of the presence of polymyxin B in biological fluids and tissues, such as 3T3-L1 preadipocytes. This compound has also been shown to have minimal toxicity and inhibitory effects on squamous cell carcinoma cells. Sinigrin inhibits the expression of signal peptides, which are proteins that direct the synthesis of proteins required for bacterial cell division.
