Stannous octoate is a model system for the elucidation of the reaction mechanism of fatty acid hydroxylation. It is a monoclonal antibody that reacts specifically with an epitope on the surface of human serum albumin, which is used to prepare samples for analytical methods such as gas chromatography-mass spectrometry. Stannous octoate has significant cytotoxicity in vitro and in vivo, and can be used to probe the site-specificity of fatty acid hydroxylation reactions. This reaction product is biocompatible and can be used to study reactions involving sodium salts.
