Sinigrin monohydrate is a model system of the primary amino acid as well as a dry weight. Sinigrin monohydrate has been shown to be an elicitor of glucosinolates in host plants. Sinigrin monohydrate is found in plants such as cabbage, horseradish, and mustard. These substances are metabolized by the colonic microflora to produce cancer-preventative agents and other compounds with medicinal properties. Sinigrin monohydrate has been shown to inhibit the growth of cancer cells in mice by activating carbohydrate chemistry and flavonoid concentration, as well as inhibiting carbohydrate metabolism. Sinigrin monohydrate also has anti-inflammatory and analgesic effects, which may be due to its ability to regulate inflammatory mediators like prostaglandins.
