Sesamolin is a natural compound that has antioxidative properties. It is an inhibitor of the enzyme MMP-9, which is involved in the degradation of extracellular matrix proteins and tumor invasion. Sesamin has been shown to inhibit the activity of MMP-9 by binding to its active site, preventing it from catalyzing reactions. Sesamin also binds to the active site of another enzyme, COX-2, which may be responsible for its anti-inflammatory properties. Sesamin also inhibits other enzymes such as sialidase and amylase, which have been linked to carcinoma cell lines.
