Sodium hexachloroiridate(III) hydrate is a chemical compound that is used in the synthesis of polyaniline and other polymers. It can be synthesized by reacting aniline with hexachloroiridate(III) ions, which are generated from sodium chlorite and hydrochloric acid. The reaction is done in the presence of ferrocene as a catalyst. Sodium hexachloroiridate(III) hydrate has been shown to have excellent kinetic properties for use in the synthesis of carbon nanotubes. This compound has also been used as a detection agent for immunoassays and gold nanoparticles, where its high linear range and constant response make it a useful tool for these applications.
