Salbutamol-4-O-sulphate is a sulfate ester of salbutamol. It is used to treat bronchospasm in patients with asthma and other respiratory problems. Salbutamol-4-O-sulphate inhibits the cytochrome P450 enzyme 2C19, which is involved in the metabolism of drugs such as acetaminophen and lamotrigine. This inhibition results in increased levels of these drugs, thereby increasing their therapeutic effects. The conjugates formed during the metabolism of salbutamol-4-O-sulphate are excreted in the urine and bile. Some drug metabolites are also excreted in the urine, but most are excreted in the bile as glucuronides or sulfates.
