3-Sulfopropyl methacrylate potassium is a polymer that is used as a coating material in the treatment of corneal ulcers. It has been shown to be effective in the prevention and treatment of corneal ulcers, which are caused by mechanical injury or light exposure. 3-Sulfopropyl methacrylate potassium can be synthesized from ethylene diamine and hydrochloric acid. The polymer is then coated onto the cornea with a surgical procedure called deep anterior lamellar keratoplasty (DALK). This polymer is also used for wastewater treatment, where it removes particles from water. 3-Sulfopropyl methacrylate potassium has a phase transition temperature of about 140°C and chloride ions can bind to its surface, which may affect its structure.
