Product Information
- 5-Mercaptopentanoic acid
5-sulfanylpentanoic acid is a sulfonic acid with a reactive group at the 5th position. It is an intermediate in the biosynthesis of putrescine and spermidine, which are important for growth and development. This compound can be synthesized by reacting 3-mercaptopropionic acid with sodium nitrate in the presence of sodium hydroxide in a two-step process. 5-sulfanylpentanoic acid has been used as a control experiment to study the optical properties of conjugates. This compound has also been shown to inhibit the growth rate of glutamic acid bacteria by binding to glutamate, which is essential for cell division.
