Suberosin is a coumarin derivative that inhibits the mitochondrial membrane potential, which is a vital component of mitochondrial function. Suberosin has been shown to protect against diabetic neuropathy and other metabolic disorders by inhibiting glucose uptake. It also binds to DNA and inhibits its synthesis, leading to cell death. Suberosin also exhibits strong antioxidant properties and can protect against oxidative damage. Studies have shown that suberosin has anticancer activity in vitro and in vivo models of cancer. Suberosin was found to inhibit tumor growth in mice by binding to the dna binding activity of cancer cells. The natural compound has also been shown to inhibit the acridone synthase enzyme, which is involved in the production of an important precursor for many biologically active compounds including malondialdehyde, an important marker for lipid peroxidation.
