Sinapaldehyde is a polymerase chain enzyme that catalyzes the biosynthesis of phenylpropanoids, which are important components of plant cell walls. Sinapaldehyde is found in plants and has been shown to have an inhibitory effect on cancer cells. It has also been shown to induce mitochondrial membrane depolarization, which may be due to its ability to inhibit p-hydroxybenzoic acid synthesis; this compound is necessary for the synthesis of polyphenols, which help protect cells against reactive oxygen species. Sinapaldehyde has also been shown to increase photosynthetic activity by increasing electron flow between the photosystems. The enzyme can be extracted from plant leaves using an etoac extract.
