Salvigenin is a natural compound that belongs to the class of sesquiterpene lactones. It has been shown to have anti-inflammatory and hypoglycemic effects in vivo. Salvigenin also inhibits Cox-2, which is an enzyme that regulates the production of prostaglandins and thromboxanes, thereby reducing inflammation and controlling blood sugar levels. Salvigenin has been found to have an inhibitory effect on skin cancer cells in vitro. In addition, salvigenin has been shown to be effective against infectious diseases such as malaria, tuberculosis, and HIV. Salvigenin binds to odorant binding protein (OBP) receptors on the surface of microorganisms, inhibiting their growth by altering mitochondrial membrane potential (MMP).
