Saikosaponin B is a natural product derived from the Chinese herb Saiko, which has been shown to have anti-inflammatory and hepatoprotective properties. Saikosaponin B inhibits the protease activity of pachymic acid, which has been shown to have significant cytotoxic effects on myeloma cell lines. This compound also inhibits the protease activity of epidermal growth factor, thus preventing its degradation by other enzymes in the skin. Saikosaponin B has been shown to have anti-inflammatory activities through inhibition of prostaglandin synthesis.
