Sweroside is a natural compound that belongs to the family of bioactive phenolic compounds. It has been shown to have anti-inflammatory and genotoxic activities. Sweroside also inhibits the production of serotonin in the brain and thereby prevents the onset of ischemia-reperfusion injury. In addition, sweroside has been found to be effective in treating myocardial infarct in rats and inhibiting 5-HT2 receptors. Sweroside can be detected using an analytical method involving HPLC with preparative hplc, human serum, or human osteosarcoma cells as a receptor. The active form of sweroside is loganic acid, which can be isolated from the fructus of Swerria erythrocarpa var. pendula (L.) Seem.
